Coal Gasification

With world’s 4th largest Coal reserves, India has an opportunity to ensure its energy security, reduce crude dependence, substitute imports by enabling a Coal Gasification based eco-system.

India’s objective of 100 MT coal gasification by 2030 is one of the most significant energy transition mandates globally. The recent approval of a ₹37,500 crore sovereign incentive framework, alongside 30-year coal linkage guarantees, has successfully provided the required policy push.

The Coal Gasification Forum (CGF) is an ecosystem enabler to bridge the "Valley of Death" between concept and commissioning. CGF aims to brings together project developers, technology providers, policymakers, investors, researchers and other stakeholders to accelerate India’s coal gasification ecosystem. CGF enables technology matchmaking, project diligence, offtake facilitation and access to financing and in process helping projects progress faster towards Financial Closure and execution.

Decarbonisation Advisory

India’s per-capita energy consumption rose from 14,682 MJ in 2014-15 to 18,410 MJ in 2023-24 at a CAGR of 2.55% and is expected to increase by 25 % by 2030. India’s per capita electricity consumption stood at 1,395 kWh in 2023-24, well below the global average of 3,700 kWh and is poised to grow annually by ~ 10% till 2030. This rapid energy demand growth opens significant space for Renewables, CCUS and other low carbon fuels to work together to advance India’s decarbonization goals.

India’s decarbonisation pathway will require a combination of Renewable energy, Electrification, energy efficiency, CCUS and low-carbon fuels across energy-intensive sectors. Particular emphasis is needed on hard-to-abate industries, where direct electrification may be technically not possible or is economically challenging. CCUS can play a critical role in addressing residual and process emissions, particularly in cement, steel, chemicals and other carbon-intensive industries. Renewable power, green hydrogen and low-carbon molecules can progressively replace fossil-fuel-based energy and feedstocks. The transition should focus on measurable emissions reduction, lifecycle carbon intensity, technology readiness and long-term economic competitiveness.

Decarbonisation advisory looks to support Decarbonisation by offering integrated services spanning technology assessment, project development, carbon accounting, CCUS implementation, financing, and regulatory and commercial advisory.
